02/26/2007 - Tampa, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brad Richards had a goal and three assists as Tampa Bay continued its dominance over Pittsburgh with a 5-1 victory at St. Pete Times Forum.
Martin St. Louis posted a goal and an assist while Ruslan Fedotenko and Eric Perrin each finished with two assists for the Lightning, who have won 12 straight against the Penguins and six in a row on home ice.
Paul Ranger, Filip Kuba and Vincent Lecavalier also scored and Johan Holmqvist needed to make just 17 saves for head coach John Tortorella's 200th win with Tampa Bay.
Sergei Gonchar tallied the lone score and Jocelyn Thibault gave up three goals on 15 shots beforing getting pulled early in the second period for Pittsburgh, which has dropped two of its last three contests after a six-game winning streak.
The Lightning got off to a fast start, as St. Louis registered a power play tally 2:17 into the opening period and Ranger scored less than two minutes later to make it 2-0.
Kuba then handed Tampa Bay a three-goal advantage early in the second period before Pittsburgh took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play to finally get on the board on Gonchar's tally at the 8:26 mark.
However, Richards restored Tampa Bay's three-goal lead just 1:31 into the third period, scoring off a nice give-and-go with Perrin. Lecavalier then put the finishing touches on the game with a short-handed goal with 5:44 left to play.
Things got testy after the final horn sounded as Pittsburgh's Maxime Talbot and Tampa Bay's Nick Tarnasky exchanged fisticuffs as the officials intervened.
Game Notes
St. Louis tied a career-high with 38 goals for the year, while Lecavalier's goal gave him 41 for the season, one score away from tying the Lightning franchise record...Pittsburgh went 1-for-4 on the power play...Tampa Bay went 1-for-2 with the man-advantage.

Now, it's okay to call the league hypocritical when it releases injury reports, which players have told me only helps bettors. And it's okay to mutter something obscene when the league pretends gambling doesn't help drive TV ratings and fan interest and put money in owners' pockets. But when it supports other forms of gaming? Big Deal. The Bears should put an orange "C" on every deck of cards dealt at Harrah's in Joliet; the Eagles should slap their logo on roulette wheels at the Borgata in Atlantic City; the Dolphins should hold training camp at the El San Juan in Puerto Rico.
Seriously.
The NFL's problem, when it comes to the gambling world, isn't hypocrisy, it's worse: The bosses lack vision. That's why the league is picking unwinnable fights in Delaware and taking pot shots from critics after making smart sponsorship deals. Roger Goodell and his gang are acting and thinking locally rather than globally, which is rare for them, especially compared to their professional (and amateur) counterparts.
The NBA held its All Star game in Las Vegas and David Stern's kingdom didn't crumble (although the town did bring plenty of players to their knees.) I'd say it's 6 to 5 and pick 'em that Lebron will make a road swing through Sin City before his career is over.
Even the NCAA College Football Betting is more progressive on this issue than the NFL. Several years ago Rachel Newman Baker, college sports' gambling czar, opened a dialogue with Vegas bookmakers to learn about how they do business. She's visited Nevada sports books, studied their operations and listened to how they regulate action. Now she knows she can expect a call from bookmakers, who lose money when sports are fixed, if they think something sketchy is going on in NCAA games. She's not in favor of sports betting, but, as she once told me, "I know it's not going away, either."
The NFL can't seem to accept that. And until it can find peace with the idea, it'll get flack, even when it's right.
